Full hive defence at a lower price, with minor paint marks the only difference

This is the same mesh bottom board with beetle trap that beekeepers across Australia rely on, offered here at a reduced price because each board carries some small paint defects. To be clear about what that means: the marks are cosmetic only. There is no breakage, no warping, and no fault with the mesh, the tray, the entrance, or the feet. Once the board is under a hive, the paint marks are out of sight and make no difference to how it performs. If you want full function without paying for a flawless finish, this is the board to grab.

Mesh floor and beetle trap

A fine stainless steel mesh screen forms the floor. Worker bees herd small hive beetles toward it, the beetles drop through where bees cannot follow, and they land in the removable tray below. Add a thin layer of diatomaceous earth to that tray and it becomes a chemical-free beetle trap that works year round.

Dual-function ventilation

Leave the tray in through the cooler months for beetle protection. Pull it out in summer and the open mesh lets the colony breathe through the floor, dropping internal heat and humidity on the days that matter most. One board, two seasonal modes, no extra equipment.

Slanted entrance and rubber feet

The slanted entrance directs rainwater away from the hive instead of letting it pool, which is what protects the timber and keeps bees dry through wet weather. The rubber-lined feet lift the board off damp ground, slow down ants and crawling pests, and steady the hive on uneven footing.

Two sizes to suit your setup

Choose 8 frame or 10 frame to match your Langstroth boxes. The two sizes are not interchangeable, so pick the one that fits the brood boxes you already run.

What exactly is wrong with these boards?

Only the paint finish. Each board has some small cosmetic paint defects, such as minor marks or uneven patches. There is no breakage, warping, or fault with the mesh, tray, entrance, or feet. Function is identical to the full-price board.

Will the paint defects affect how the board performs?

No. The marks are purely cosmetic and sit out of sight once the board is under a hive. The mesh, beetle trap, drainage, and feet all work exactly as intended.

How does the beetle trap work?

Bees push small hive beetles toward the floor, the beetles fall through the stainless mesh where bees cannot follow, and they collect in the tray below. A layer of diatomaceous earth in the tray finishes them off without chemicals.

Can I use it for summer ventilation?

Yes. Remove the tray on hot days and the open mesh ventilates the hive through the floor, reducing heat and humidity. Slide it back in when conditions cool to return to beetle-protection mode.

Should I choose 8 frame or 10 frame?

Match it to your existing hive. Choose 8 frame for an 8-frame Langstroth setup, or 10 frame for a standard 10-frame system. The two sizes are not interchangeable.

Do the rubber feet matter?

Yes. They lift the board off wet ground to prevent rot, make it harder for ants to reach the hive, and steady it on uneven surfaces. Pairing the board with a proper hive stand adds further protection.
