Protect your beehive from Varroa mites with Bayvarol Strips, a reliable parasiticide designed for the diagnosis and treatment of flumethrin-sensitive Varroa on bees. This pack of 20 strips offers an effective solution for maintaining the health of your colony, ensuring the safety of your bees while minimizing the risk of mite infestations.
How it works in the hive
Each strip hangs between the brood frames, where bee traffic is heaviest. As bees brush past, they pick up the flumethrin and carry it through the colony by contact, reaching mites you could never get to by hand. The strips have a large contact surface, so there is more of that contact per strip. A full brood chamber takes four strips, a nuc or small swarm takes two, and they stay in for the treatment period set out on the label. Used as directed, it is gentle on the queen, on brood, and on your wax, propolis and comb honey.
Treatment and diagnosis in one
Bayvarol does two jobs at once. It clears flumethrin-sensitive mites from the colony, and with a sticky board or mesh floor underneath, the mites that drop give you a read on how heavy the infestation was. Pair it with a varroa sticky board and you get a real count over the treatment window instead of a guess. That number is worth keeping, since it tells you whether your management between treatments is holding the line.

What are Bayvarol Strips used for?
Bayvarol Strips are used for the diagnosis and treatment of flumethrin-sensitive Varroa mites in honeybee colonies. They help protect beehives by targeting mites through contact treatment inside the brood chamber.
How do Bayvarol Strips work inside the hive?
Bayvarol Strips are placed between brood frames where bee movement is highest. As bees walk over and brush against the strips, they pick up the active ingredient, flumethrin, and spread it through the colony by contact. This helps reach Varroa mites attached to bees throughout the hive.
What is the active ingredient in Bayvarol Strips?
The active ingredient in Bayvarol Strips is flumethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid parasiticide used to treat flumethrin-sensitive Varroa mites on bees.
How many Bayvarol Strips do I need per hive?
A full brood chamber requires 4 Bayvarol Strips. For a nuc, young colony, or small swarm, use 2 strips. Always follow the label directions for correct placement, treatment timing, and safe use.
Can Bayvarol Strips be used for Varroa mite diagnosis?
Yes. Bayvarol Strips can support both treatment and diagnosis. When used with a mesh floor or Varroa sticky board underneath the hive, falling mites can be counted during the treatment period to help estimate infestation levels.
Why should I use a sticky board with Bayvarol Strips?
A sticky board helps catch mites that drop during treatment. This gives you a clearer mite count instead of guessing the infestation level. Tracking mite drop can also help you understand whether your Varroa management plan is working between treatments.
Are Bayvarol Strips safe for queen bees and brood?
When used as directed, Bayvarol Strips are designed to be gentle on queen bees, brood, beeswax, propolis, and comb honey. Correct use and label compliance are important to protect colony health and treatment performance.
Can I use Bayvarol Strips during honey flow?
Bayvarol Strips should not be used during peak honey flow periods. Always follow the product label directions before treating, especially when honey supers are present or when bees are actively producing harvestable honey.
Where should Bayvarol Strips be placed in the hive?
Bayvarol Strips should be hung between brood frames where bee traffic is strongest. This ensures bees make enough contact with the strips to distribute the treatment through the colony.
How long should Bayvarol Strips stay in the hive?
Bayvarol Strips should remain in the hive for the treatment period stated on the label. Do not remove them too early or leave them in longer than directed, as incorrect use may reduce effectiveness or increase resistance risk.
Why is it important to follow the Bayvarol label directions?
Following the label is essential for safe and effective Varroa control. Incorrect use can reduce mite control, leave untreated mites behind, or increase the risk of resistance developing in Varroa populations.
Can Varroa mites become resistant to Bayvarol?
Yes. Varroa mites can develop resistance if treatments are overused, misused, or not rotated properly. Bayvarol should be used strictly according to the label and as part of a wider integrated pest management plan.
Is Bayvarol suitable for every Varroa infestation?
Bayvarol is designed for flumethrin-sensitive Varroa mites. If resistance is suspected or mite levels remain high after treatment, further monitoring and alternative approved Varroa control options may be required.
Can Bayvarol Strips be used in nucs or swarms?
Yes. Bayvarol Strips can be used in young colonies, nucs, or swarms at the recommended rate of 2 strips. Smaller colonies should still be monitored carefully and treated according to label directions.
How should Bayvarol Strips be stored?
Bayvarol Strips must be stored below 25°C. Proper storage helps protect the active ingredient and maintain product effectiveness until use.
Why are Bayvarol Strips shipped with thermal wrapping and ice packs?
Bayvarol Strips need to be kept below 25°C, so thermal wrapping and ice packs help protect the product during shipping. This is especially important in warm weather or when shipping temperature-sensitive hive treatments.
How many strips are included in one pack?
Each pack contains 20 Bayvarol Strips. At the standard rate of 4 strips per brood chamber, one pack can treat up to 5 full brood chambers, depending on hive size and treatment requirements.
Can Bayvarol Strips be used in all Australian states?
No. This product can only be purchased in NSW and ACT. Beekeepers outside these areas should check their local approved Varroa treatment options and regulations before purchasing or applying any treatment.
Do I need protective equipment when handling Bayvarol Strips?
Always handle Bayvarol Strips according to the label directions. Wash your hands after handling the strips and avoid unnecessary contact with the treatment material.
Why choose Bayvarol Strips for Varroa mite control?
Bayvarol Strips offer a simple, effective, and easy-to-apply treatment for flumethrin-sensitive Varroa mites. With strong contact coverage, clear dosing rates, and a long shelf life, they are a practical option for beekeepers managing Varroa in approved regions.
