A Blue Candle Jar That Colours the Candle With Nothing Added to the Wax

Dyeing candle wax is more trouble than it looks. The colour has to be weighed, the dye stirred in at the right temperature, the shade shifts as the wax cools, and some dyes clog the wick or fade in a sunny window. A maker who wants a blue candle for a baby shower or a coastal range ends up with a shelf of half-used dye and a batch that is nearly, but not quite, the blue they wanted.

The blue glass candle jar puts the colour in the glass instead. Pour plain, undyed soy into it and the candle is blue from the outside, and lit, the whole jar glows like a lamp. It is a small pour-in jar, about 7.5cm wide and 8cm tall, with no lid, in the same size family as the frosted and pink jars in the collection.

Colour From the Glass, Not the Wax

Keeping the wax undyed has more going for it than saving a step. The wax burns exactly as the wick was tested for, with no dye to change it. The colour never fades, because glass does not. The candle can be sold as natural soy or pure beeswax, which matters to a lot of buyers. And tinted glass hides the pale patches soy leaves against the inside of a jar nearly as well as frosted glass does.

How It Looks Lit

Unlit, white soy in blue glass reads as a solid blue candle, close to sea glass. Lit, the flame lights the wax from inside and the jar throws a soft blue glow onto whatever it sits on. Beeswax is yellow, and yellow through blue glass comes out teal rather than blue. That can look very good, but for a true blue, white soy is the wax to use.

Where It Fits in the Range

This is a single-wick jar for everyday candles, favours and gift sets rather than centrepieces. It is the colour-themed option: a blue table at a baby shower, a coastal wedding, a sea salt or driftwood fragrance, or a set of three in blue, pink and frosted. There is no lid, so for gifting the candle goes into one of the aluminium candle boxes in the same collection.

What It Is Not

There is no lid, so it does not seal fragrance in between burns or travel in a bag. The colour is in the glass, so a layered or marbled candle will not show through it; use a clear jar for that. It ships empty and sold singly, with no wick or wax. Check the size against your wick chart before ordering in quantity, since it is a small jar.

Is the blue colour in the glass or the wax?

The colour is in the glass, so the wax stays undyed. It never fades, and the candle can still be sold as natural soy or pure beeswax.

What size is the blue candle jar?

It is approximately 7.5cm wide and 8cm high, a small single-wick pour-in jar.

Which wax gives a true blue?

Undyed white soy gives a true blue. Beeswax is yellow, so it comes out teal through blue glass.

Does the jar have a lid?

No. It is a pour-in jar with no lid, so it does not seal fragrance between burns or travel in a bag.

Does it come with a wick or wax?

No. The jar ships empty and is sold individually, with no wick or wax included.

How many wicks does it need?

It takes a single wick sized for a 7.5cm jar. Check the size against your wick chart before ordering in quantity.

Does tinted glass hide wet spots?

Nearly as well as frosted glass does. Tinted glass hides the pale patches soy leaves against the inside of a jar.

Can I make a layered or marbled candle in it?

No. The colour is in the glass, so layers and marbling will not show through. Use a clear jar for that.

Is it good for baby showers and coastal weddings?

Yes. It suits a blue table at a baby shower or a coastal wedding, or a set of three in blue, pink and frosted.

How do I gift a candle made in it?

There is no lid, so the candle goes into one of the aluminium candle boxes in the same collection.
